If the person who had killed this doctor were a Muslim we would undoubtedly call it an act of terrorism, the fact that he happens to be a fundamentalist Christian is no reason to exclude this act of violence from this category.

It was a fundamentalist Christian in this case, but any group operating under the banner of religion in this country is exempt from prosecution for the crimes they commit.
The laws are there but they are almost never enforced for fear of having the charge of religious persecution flung about. Why, in a supposedly secular country, are religiosos allowed to hold this country hostage?
The anti-abortion lobby in this country is the equivalent of Christian Taliban. They attempt to force their religious beliefs on others, gather to plot strategies against legally enacted laws, squash the rights of women and sometimes to incite violence. There is no difference, they are terrorists by every definition of the word.

I don't know where I stand on this late term abortion stuff. I mean, I support a woman's right to make choices about her life and her body, but the UK does abortions up to 24 weeks. some studies say a baby has roughly a 50% chance of surviving with proper care at that stage.

The thing that bothers me is a fetus is viable at 27 weeks, so if it is being done simply as a matter of retroactive-birth control, why not just wait 3 more weeks and give it up for adoption? That would be the logical thing to do.
But then again we are not talking about the brightest of women here either. When polled, 71% of those responding when asked why they waited so late answered, that they didn’t know they were pregnant. 0.0
6 months...pregnant for 6 months and didn’t know? REALLY???? Just how uneducated do you have to be to not know that 6 missed periods are most likely due to pregnancy? Not to mention all the other symptoms that accompany pregnancy.
What was even more disturbing was their reasons for not even considering the possibility of being pregnant when they were missing those periods.
1. They only had sex once 2. They did it standing up 3. They guy told them he was sterile 4.They only missed taking the pill a few times, but they took it that day and various other sexually illiterate reasons.
So I am torn between a woman’s right to choose and the question of whether or not these particular women are competent enough to legally make choices.

Tiller had murdered roughly 60,000 viable babies. Not blobs, but viable babies who were late term. That is murder. He was being charged with murder until he BOUGHT the law through a series of elections and bribes in the state where he murdered. So that is a fraction of your number, which is also wrong because he would have had to work around the clock for 50 years to perform that many abortions.

The truth is society does not need more children; but it does need more loved children. Quite literally, we cannot afford unloved children - but we pay heavily for them every day. There should not be the slightest communal concern when a woman elects to destroy the life of her thousandth-of-an-ounce embryo. But all society should rise up in alarm when it hears that a baby that is not wanted is about to be born,and is why more time and money is spent on trying to save the human not born yet than the millions that live a short life and die in misery

When anti abortion rallies were in their heyday, my friend and I thought that we had found a perfect way drum up volunteers to be foster parents. Her mom had an application for foster parents in her office, so we took and made 200 copies on pink paper. we handed most of them out at 3 different rallies/protests. After a few weeks, we were really curious so we called and asked how many pink applications they had gotten. They thought we were crazy of course. Not 1 of the applications had been returned.
It is not proof of anything, but it is interesting.There were thousands of people at those rallies saying they wanted to save the life of an unborn child, yet none of the almost 200 people we gave fliers to would step up to save the life a born child in risk of dieing from abuse.
At the time, I was a teen and against abortion. I still wouldn’t do it for myself just as a form of birth control, but I would not try to stop anyone else from doing it. Only they know what they can handle or not.

Sorry for going off-route but this debate gives me something to ponder.
Just recently we had a debate on IB about condoms, if any of you remember that. You know, I think there is a nexus between these abortion clinics/doctors/specialists and those who are against the use of condoms.
Because... a condom is much more than just a birth-control tool. A single condom, used by each of those women who went to that damned doctor’s clinic for abortion, could have saved the life of that damned doctor.
Now let’s simplify it for the late-currents;
A women goes for abortion under various reasons listed below (as far as my knowledge, so you are free to update this list);
1) Casual sex/one night stand resulting in pregnancy.
2) Sex with married partner + ignorance about birth-control tools.
3) Sex with married partner + financial inability to welcome a new child in the family.
4) Husband and wife initially plan for a child but later change their idea due to some reason (non-health issues).
5) Pregnancy arising out of extra-marital affairs or polygamous tendencies.
6) Love at first site resulting in sex on first date.
7) Pregnancy due to failure of birth-control tool (non-condom).
8) Some grave health condition faced by the women that carries risk for the child or mother.
9) Rape
10) Sexual abuse by family member (that includes incest).
Out of the above cases, No. 1 through No. 8 directly recommend the use of condom and the ones who are not using it and later opting for abortion are stupids, or maybe devils.
As for No. 9 and 10, unfortunately, abortion is the only way. But... who asks you to wait for 6 months before going for abortion in this case?!!
A quick abortion is recommended... and that needs no doctors or abortion clinics... emergency pills can take care of such stuff.
So, the only solution to avoid such things is to use condoms and spread awareness about the benefits of condoms.
I think it’s not that difficult, is it?
Let’s all unite and fight for a cause instead of fighting with each other.

... God Himself made the birth cycle in a woman where she can only become pregnant when she ovulates. God therefore gives us an example of birth control (she can only be pregnant at certain times of the month).
Also, as stated previously, the Apostle Paul said couples can refrain from sex for reasons of love for the good of the family such as spiritual and other family needs. Therefore, not having sex when she is fertile is just fine Biblically.
There is nothing in the Bible that speaks against using condoms. Condoms are just another way of not getting pregnant just like abstaining from sex when a woman is in her fertile period.
Using birth control pills accomplishes the same purpose. Using birth control pills, however, is each persons free right to decide since every drug has a side effect and may be dangerous to health.
Abortion is Biblically a sin since once a sperm and ovum is united a new being exists and that would be MURDER in God’s eyes.
The only requirement when sperm from the man is spilled is that they both should wash with water to keep themselves clean so disease doesn’t spread (Leviticus 14-15).
The other Biblical restriction concerns the refusal of a brother to continue the family line with a widow of his brother. God states it is a sin if the brother spills his sperm on purpose so the brother’s widow would not be able to continue the family line (Genesis 38:8-10).
When we search God’s Word, we find God makes sense and everything He does is out of what is good for us because He loves us.

There’s a fundamental error here that there is no reason to believe this killing was “vengeance”. Vengeance is punishment for past sins. However this may be a killing to prevent future sins. Frankly, all people, Christians and non-Christians agree that taking the law into your own hands to prevent a future death can be acceptable. Not everyone agrees that this scenario is such a valid scenario, but nobody has come up with some firm and clear reasons why not.
